Produced and directed by a National Emmy Award winner, NBC Sports’ broadcast of The 2004/2005 Mavericks Surf Contest marks big-wave surfing’s network television premiere. On Sunday, April 24th at 4pm ET/1pm PT, NBC’s viewing audience will get a first-hand look at “the Super Bowl of big-wave surfing” (Sports Illustrated). An international field of the most talented big-wave surfers in the world are called on just 24 hours’ notice to face waves that have crested over 60 feet, frigid waters, dangerous rocks, and the ever-present threat of the Great White Shark, all while vying for the $75,000 Balance Vector Prize Purse and the respect accorded those who face this ultimate challenge.
