SurfPulse Surf Rescue & CPR Course in Half Moon Bay, CA on Saturday, October 22, 2005

Update: CPR course is still available! Surf rescue part of class is full. Click here for more details below. (9/30/05)

If you saw someone unconscious in the surf, would you know what to do? Learn critical life saving techniques, including assisting conscious and unconscious victims in the ocean, using a surfboard as a rescue device, cervical spine immobilization, rescue breathing, bleeding control, lifeguard water carries, PWC-assisted rescues, and basic CPR.

SurfPulse, Half Moon Bay Parks & Recreation, Half Moon Bay Fire Department, Pillar Point Harbor, and K38 Rescue are offering this class at below cost. In other words, most of the instructors and agencies involved are donating their time and resources to teach these invaluable techniques.

Half Moon Bay Fire department will teach American Heart Association's 2-3 hour "CPR for Family and Friends" (more details below). Afterwards, students will learn hands-on, ocean rescue techniques from key rescuers of HMB Fire Department's Surf Rescue Unit, Pillar Point Harbor, and K38 Water Safety at Pillar Point Harbor. Each water rescue veteran has done water rescues in the huge surf at Maverick's and other extremely hazardous conditions.

The 2-3 hour water portion of the class is tailored to surfers, but all ocean enthusiasts that can swim are encouraged to attend! Most of the water techniques will be done in calm water, but advanced students may get to venture out with instructors into the surf as time and surf conditions permit. All students of water portion of class MUST be good swimmers.
