Job Description:
SurfPulse needs a new Surf Reporter to do the daily surf report. (The current primary Surf Reporter is going out indefinitely on paternity leave on October 15, 2006). SurfPulse has 1000's of daily visitors, and people from up to 74 other countries visit SurfPulse each month. You will visually check the surf at Ocean Beach, and give an accurate report of surf and weather conditions every morning. The report is uploaded to SurfPulse.com using a simple web form, and the email report is done using Yahoo! Groups. Afternoon updates are appreciated when conditions change dramatically, but they are not required. Naming specific parts of the beach or other specific surf spots is frowned upon. Tasteful humor and creativity are encouraged.

This is a 7-days/week commitment, but with advance notice, we have substitute reporters that can cover the report occasionally when you go out of town or are otherwise unavailable.

Job Requirements:

Live at or near Ocean Beach in San Francisco
Have a schedule that allows an early morning surf check, and approximately 5 to 10 minutes to type out and upload the report
Excellent written communication skills
Experienced waterman/waterwoman, who knows surfing lingo, but who can communicate in proper English
Computer literate
Internet connection
Desire to contribute something to the surfing community
Unwavering reliability
No prior website or newsletter experience required

This job pays close to nothing. So, why do it? Because. . . you love surfing. You check the surf every morning, anyway. You like writing. You love writing about surfing. Compensation:
Most SurfPulse contributors have volunteered their time. Jobs, like Surf Reporter, which require a daily commitment, might pay a small monthly stipend. Any sales or business-related contribution that would generate quantifiable revenue would be compensated based on sales commission. But if you'd only want to contribute in exchange for money, then it wouldn't be a good fit. We have to generate a certain amount of revenue to cover expenses. But we do it for the love, not the money.
