I’ve lived no more than 100 feet from the ocean my entire life and see it every day, but Ocean Beach still never ceases to amaze me with its dramatic mood swings. From yesterday morning’s bleak conditions to it firing in the afternoon, it was quite a site to see! Alright, on tap this morning we have sunny, blue skies, a slight breeze out of the Northwest, the ocean is smooth and surf looks fun. Waves this morning look to be in the shoulder to maybe head high range, mostly on the walled up side of the spectrum with some quick shoulders out there for the taking. The ocean is smooth and overall conditions are looking rideable, nothing great, but fun and rideable. Some peaks are definitely working better than others, so a little drive up and down the beach might be worth your while.
If you do paddle out, make sure to bundle up and bust out that 6/5/4 wetsuit you have stored away for mornings like today, otherwise it might be a bit chilly out there.

congratulations on the new site. a big improvement!
what happened? this site has gone to hell!
it used to be easy on the eyes, but is now just a clutter. bring back the simplicity!
Where are the bouy readings and tides? I can’t find them on the new layout.
Hi all,
As mentioned previously, the relaunch will be a gradual process. If there’s something you don’t see now or something isn’t working exactly right, don’t stress quite yet. We’re working on it! Keep an eye out for changes over the next few days as we get the kinks ironed out. We hope you like the new site.
site looks clean and nice, but bring back the buouy graphs, swell and period chart, tides, cams – or at least easy links to them. hopefully that stuff is in development
All my bookmarked links are hosed e.g. http://www.surfpulse.com/surf_report.shtml goes to the old site and http://www.surfpulse.com/index.shtml goes to an error page. Should I edit by bookmarks or will you fix these?
the forecast? is it coming or am i blind and just missing it? i love the forecast, love it so much. otherwise the site looks fresh!!
Where’s the cam?
The cam is the main attraction!
Design and words are nice, but the cam and data are your main drawcards. Bring ‘em back!
Ditto on others comments. Best part of the surf report were the buoy charts, wind charts, cam and tides. The ‘all on one’ (ex-cam) page format worked great. Prevents the need to go to 3 other sites.
Hi folks,
Thanks for your comments, suggestions, and concerns.
We are absolutely getting to incorporating the cam, tides and buoys, and forecast. We also are in the process of updating past news and features items to reflect their actual publication date from the old SurfPulse site, as well as correcting layout issues with graphics and such.
It will take this weekend and through next week to get to everything.
Again, due to circumstances beyond our control, we were forced to relaunch before we had completed all of our work (just blame it on the bad economy). Please bear with us and check back regularly for the improvements and the stuff you love about SurfPulse. They will return!
Thanks for your patience!

If it ain’t broke, don’t fit it.
i mean ‘fix’ . . . anyway, i’ll give it a week.
Surf forecast, and cam, all presented in a quick
glance, easily readable format is why I visited your site.
please keep this in mind. most sites are clutter beyond belief with advertising and trying to sell pop outs from china
oh, jeez. get it right and THEN update the site.
How dare you f up the absolutely free resource that we’ve been using for years without paying a dime. So disappointed in you. Please send us all a refund immediately.
On a positive (serious) note… having cam, tides, buoys on one page would be awesome. If you’re worried about losing PVs for your ads, charge a higher rate for that page and/or sell as fixed fee sponsorship. If you explain the change and the increased “engagement” of the new all in one page advertisers will understand and guarantee over time you’ll get the traffic back.
Gasp: That’s too funny. In all seriousness, I would expect the community to cut a bit of slack to the free surfing site that we’ve all trusted for years to provide us our core surfing information. Especially when they are trying to improve things for everyone.
I agree with Gasp on not compromising usability to artificially drive page-views.
I love surfpulse, check 3 times a day. Used to feel like home, just like the beach with a good Alaska swell moving through.
New site sucks donkey **** — feel like I left the beach and landed at some cheasy San diego beachbreak. Give the people the real surfepulse back, please.
thanx for the reports and all the great work – G
thanx for the reports and all the great work, congradulation – G
it needs more color, like the blue…the white page is hard on the eyes.
the white is hard on the eyes
I think this is unbelievably worse – w/no cam/forecast/tides easy to access, why would i ever come back?
Surfpulse was using the surf forecast from Stormsurf.

Hi all,
We just put up a new post with a little more info on the redesign, and stuff that’s still coming. Check it out:

PS. Site looks good, though the
old one wasn’t bad.
Pretty ballsy going the blog platform for a surf report site, but a smart move nonetheless. You should put a webcam widget on your right navbar or center navbar. And since you’re going the “social” route, you should also incorporate links to other sites like surfmondial.com.
People always complain about change. We’ll get used to the new site and keep coming back as long as the main features are front and center and easy to find (cam and report). Good luck!
Nice job on the new design. We’ll definitely all get used to it (and if not we’ll still keep coming for the information anyways) so keep up the great work!
In one of your reports you said to put on a 6/5/4 wetsuit. I really, really like your reports, and think they’re very accurate and quite detailed, but that is just flat out wrong. There is no need for anything more than a 4/3 anywhere in California. You don’t even take a 5/4/3 out until it’s in the mid 40′s, which never happens in CA.
mid 40′s water temperature, that is. not air.
Has anyone been having trouble w/ the cam. All I get is a black screen.
Preferred the more centered layout, also the starkness of the white page seems a bit much
sorry…But thanks for years of selfless service, too bad the community seems less than it was years ago, oh well
Wow, what a bunch of whiners. They’ll get it straight. You’ll get used to it and it’ll work as well as before, if not better. My only suggestion is to incorporate some sort of accruate wind data/forecast. I like Sailflow.com for it’s wind forecast.
Cheers,
Chase
For once I actually like an updated web page design! I trust you will get all the ducks back in line ie cam and tides, forcast etc. Agree on the “all-info-on-one-page” requests- it always seemed silly to have to click for more.
Glad to have you back- good job.
ps if anyone doesn’t know about it. the Fort Funston wind&cam site is a great resource.
