Hello SurfPulsers,
If you’re reading this, you’ve probably realized that there’s a new look to SurfPulse. We hope you like the stuff we’ve added, and bear with us while we finish getting all the features you’ve come to expect from SurfPulse moved over and have them all working properly. As always, our goal is to make sure SurfPulse is the best one-stop shop for local surfing info relating to the Bay Area and Northern California, published by people who know it, surf it, and love it. In that spirit, we thought it’d be a good idea to tell you a little more about the redesign, and what’s still coming.
The last time SurfPulse was redesigned was 2002. In web technology time, that’s a long stretch, and it was time to update a few things. We wanted to add new social features to allow greater interaction among the SurfPulse community, and we wanted to make it easier for people to contribute great content relevant to NorCal surfing. For you techies, we also needed to make some improvements to the site’s infrastructure. Our content management system (CMS) was very old and difficult to use. We were paying too much for hosting, and wanted to switch providers on that front as well. So, we figured we might as well do it all in one go. Of course, we wanted to do all this while keeping all the things that make SurfPulse what it is: an uncluttered, local focus on current and forecasted surf conditions, updated daily.
While we’re at it, we also figured it was a good time to clear up some misperceptions. Primarily, the redesign has nothing to do with advertising or making more money. Nobody is getting rich off SurfPulse. In fact, SurfPulse isn’t even anyone’s full-time day job, and the site barely makes enough from advertising to cover our hosting costs (sometimes not even that). We work on SurfPulse because we enjoy it, and want to make a contribution to the NorCal surfing community that we love.
We hope that gives you greater insight into the new look of SurfPulse, and we look forward to continued improvements and getting all the features you relied on at the old site moved over into our new home. Have a great week, and get some waves!
The Surfpulse Team

Keep up the great work guys, its people like you who keep use “other-side-of-towners” informed on the conditions. Thanks for all the hard work and dedication!
Keep the faith guys. Don’t be put off by the flames from the peanut gallery.
You guys rock. The morning reports are the best. More often than not I burst into laughter on reading them. Don’t worry about the static – do what you think is right.
Hey there,
I don’t want to be negative at all, I’ve really appreciated everything you all have contributed over the years – I check this site everyday. But I’m little confused…no more cam? Where’s the report?
And, the new look isn’t bad – just bland, looks like a basic blog site – o.k. it’s not good. Sorry.
New cam page is up, sorry for the delay. Tide charts and bouys up next. Stay tuned!
Hey,
I’m really liking the new site! It looks clean, web 2.0 ish and well all the social features are nice.
I see you adopted Wordpress, great choice!
Awesome-
It’s a good thing to get a few years out of a website. It’s also a good thing to grow out of an old design. Thanks for freshening up the place. I like surfpulse for the local focus and the handy buoy graphs. Looking forward to the new stuffs.
I am still having problems viewing the cam. It loads just like before, but all I get is black screen. Any ideas? Thanks . . . Tim
WOW, your new site looks quite terrible compared to the old one. Navigation, layout and everything is truly, truly bad web design. Your advertisers must be POed too, their placement is so bad under the new design. If you want an opinion that’s not timid — I think you should start over. This is honestly the worst re-design project I’ve ever seen. Sorry, just being honest. Your old site = much better.
Tim, can you tell us whether you are on PC or Mac and what browser. We are still ironing out the kinks on the cam setup. Sorry and thanks in advance.
dem, if you have any specific advice we’re all ears.
I am using a PC with Vista and Internet Explorer 7, hope this helps! Thanks Much . . . Tim
how do i find an extended forcast on your new website?
I guess you don’t look a gift horse in the mouth – glad you guys are doing this as the reports/forecast/classifieds have helped me in the past.
But if you asked…
The look is clean = good.
The hierarchy of info is a bit garbled – might think about reorganizing the navigation index on the right based on the things folks come here FOR (conditions, forecast, news, classifieds), rather than how they happen to be organized on the server. The little green things at the top seem to conflate with the navigation index…
Anyway, glad you guys are here and that you’ve got the motivation to keep things current. We’re all lucky to have Surfpulse… keep up the great work.
Interesting new look. On the “old” site I used the Links button to get info down here in Monterey. Is that feature still available?
how do i find the forecast now?
