The Kahuna Kupuna is an annual shortboard & longboard surf contest that honor the more experienced (in age) surfers among us and benefits Pacifica’s Environmental Family, a non-profit umbrella organization that enables local grass roots groups Pacifica Beach Coalition, Pacifica Garden Project, and Vallemar Conservators to apply for grants under their non-profit auspice.
NEW: Entry fees have been reduced to $60 (individuals) and $30 for under-40 surfers in the team division.
DIVISIONS: Men’s & women’s age groups start at 40 & up, plus intergenerational team division for 6-member teams that represent 3 generations (surfers under 40 welcome). Awards party at the Log Shop starts at 5:30 PM.

The Kahuna Kupuna is a fundraiser for, among evnvironmental groups in Pacifica. These groups keep the beaches clean, restore native habitat at Linda Mar Beach, provide environmental education to kids in afterschool programs.
None of the surf shops directly sponsor this contest, so it’s a self supporting event. $60 is about what it costs to cover expenses and raise a couple of thousand dollars. If folks don’t want to support it, that’s fine. But, trashing a benefit surf contest seems a bit harsh.
