Bolinas Bay Climate Action Festival on Saturday, October 24, 2009

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF CLIMATE ACTION – Bolinas Bay Climate Action Festival.

350 is the most important number in the world. Scientists say 350 parts per million concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere is the upper level for maintaining the planet as we know it today. Sustained levels above 350 will permanently change the ecology of our world. The current level is 385 and that is why the artic is melting, droughts are speading and the sea is rising. 350 is a target that we can strive for. Concerned people all over the world are rallying on October 24th to highlight the number 350 to alert people everywhere of the importance of reducing the CO2 concentration in the atmosphere. Communities and groups will create “an Action” to demonstrate the urgency of climate change.

Scott Tye, chair of Surfrider Foundation Marin County, has organized and registered the Bolinas Climate Action Festival in the Stinson Beach Community Green from 10:30 am to 3:30 pm. The Festival will:

  • Demonstrate for a reduced CO2 Earth.
  • Apply caution tape to areas of Stinson Beach that will be inundated by a 2 meter sealevel rise.
  • Celebrate the bio-diversity and the threat to our paradise.
