UPDATE 12:15 PM: Oil Spill in SF Bay on Friday, October 30, 2009

UPDATE 12:15 PM: Still no confirmation of how much oil has been spilled. Latest estimates are now at about 100 gallons. Sounds eerily familiar to Cosco Busan low estimates at the beginning of the oil recovery effort.

If you see any oiled wildlife, please call the Oiled Wildlife Care Network at (877) 823-6926.

According to SFGate.com, bunker oil (the same type that spilled from the Cosco Busan) spilled into the bay during transfer from a barge to the oil tanker Dubai Star. The oil spill occurred about 2.5 miles south of the Bay Bridge and has left a one-mile sheen on the water.

Coast Guard vessels are at the scene. There is no report of a collision involved with this accident. The Coast Guard told San Francisco city officials that the oil leak was only one to five gallons; however, according to the article, aerial shots of the scene show a substantially larger leak.

At this time, we are not fully apprised of the severity of the spill.
