Outer Richmond District (and others), NERT Needs You!

From a concerned Outer Richmond resident, Mr. Gabriel Lampert:

OUTER RICHMOND RESIDENTS (especially) –

After an earthquake, city services are overwhelmed and depend on help provided by trained volunteers. There are thousands of such trained Neighborhood Emergency Response Team members throughout the city, except in the Outer Richmond area (including Ocean Beach). We need more NERT folks.

The training consists of six 3-hour sessions, one per week, during which you get good advice on what are the most useful things you can do (and what you need to avoid). At the end of the six weeks, you are certified and are given a helmet, a reflective vest (not Armani), and gloves.

SFFD is running training sessions all the time, and if you cannot attend one of the six in a given session, you can make it up at a later time. Visit http://www.sfgov.org/site/sfnert_index.asp to find out.

SFFD folks have also told Mr. Lampert that they would be willing to hold sessions at other places at the convenience of residents, so if there are, say 15 to 20 people who are interested in attending sessions in the Ocean Beach area, then they will hold them. In this case (if you want special sessions), please contact Mr. Lampert—when he gets 15 to 20 names (and contact info: phone and/or email), then he will call the SFFD NERT people, and they will set it up.
