The following is a press release from the folks who ran the 2nd Annual It’s About Sea Life Benefit, held on Nov. 20, 2009 at Aquarium of the Bay in San Francisco:

RAISED RECORD AMOUNT TO BENEFIT OCEAN RELATED NONPROFITS

Event Featured Celebrity and Pro-Surfer Appearances, Including Legendary Pro-Surfer/Musician Tom Curren and Pro-Surfer Rochelle Ballard

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. November 2009 Conceived by a group of San Francisco-based surfer/environmentalists concerned about the continuing threats to our coastlines and marine ecosystems, the Nov. 20 Its About Sea Life Benefit was a complete success in raising awareness and funds for this years beneficiaries: Surfaid International, Save the Waves Coalition, Surfrider Foundation and the Marine Mammal Center.

Set amongst the dramatic environs of San Franciscos Aquarium of the Bay, more than 400 people attended the benefit, which featured live music, small bites, a silent and live auction and appearances by Mavericks Big Wave Pioneer Jeff Clark, Legendary 3-Time World Champion Pro-surfer/Musician Tom Curren, Pro-Surfer/Yoga Instructor Rochelle Ballard and LAs up and coming musician Marc B.

This year was truly special. We brought together so many partners, sponsors and guests to recognize the nations most active ocean-related non-profits while raising funds for them, said Milton Fiala, founder of the San Francisco based action sports company Surf Addict, who created Its About Sea Life. Im thrilled to be part of an event and a community that can work together as a team to generate greater awareness and improve the quality of our coastlines and of those who depend on it as a way of life planning for next years benefit is already underway.

The silent, live auction and raffle featured one-of-a-kind items such as an autographed Jimmy Hendrix photo, Matt Ambroses Big-Wave Gun Surfboard Signed by 2009/2010 Mavericks Contestants, Jeff Clarks Autographed Big-Wave Gun, Rochelle Ballards Short-Board with art by Venice Beachs William Attaway, Pro-Surfer Brad Gerlachs 2008 Surfboard shaped during Sacred Craft 2008, Wise Surfboards Wood Long-Board and Randy Cone Surfboards Recycled Resin Chair. Tom Curren later surprised guests with an exclusive performance at the after-party, held at the Hard Rock Caf Fishermans Wharf.

The following morning, local surfers, ocean conservationists, animal and life lovers performed a ceremonial Paddle-Out at Crissy Field in East Beach to offer prayers for all ocean creatures and sea life protection. Pro-Surfer and Yoga Instructor Rochelle Ballard led the Paddle-Out, which was followed by a discussion with environmental non-profit representatives about their quest to preserve sea life, and a Yoga Session on Sunday, at the San Francisco Bay Club.
