Fascinating new research has been published about the great white sharks that live in northern California coastal waters, but also migrate to Hawaii for half the year. Scientists theorize that the great whites that live in this area are a distinct breed that do not mingle with great whites from other areas, including SoCal. For more information, read the article at SFGate.com.

Cool story. With all of the sea life I’ve seen out at OB and Linda Mar over the last few weeks I’m surprised there haven’t been more reporting sightings for far this season. And I guess now we know that there *are* sharks inside the Bay, despite previous “expert” speculation that they don’t like the salt-levels inside the Bay.
If they can track them to the Gate, why can’t they track them inside the Bay?
Not sure if you all have seen the Ocean feature on Google Earth, but it has tagged wildlife tracking. Its pretty cool, from a totally geekish kind of way!!! My guess with regard to the tracking inside the Bay would be that the tracking devices only transmit when the shark is at the surface, could be that they do not surface inside the Bay?
Nope, article said that the sensors were placed at the mouth of the bay and could only detect the shark when it was w/i 850 feet.
Thanks for the correction, I should have read the artical before putting in my 2 cents!
Cheers . . . see ya in the line up!
I love those critters, no matter where ya surf the peninsula…the crowd is right! Karma is karma and there are plenty of young, juicy gromets flip flopping for their dinning pleasure. One has to have a sense of humor or find some other way to spend your life…seabed7
