I’m gonna miss that big lug! Our loss is Heaven’s gain!
Already miss “Big Eric” — he was the embodiment of stoke and good humor in the line-up. Never failed, our paths would cross whenever it was blowing offshore and the sun just peaked out of the fog. He had a knack for living well and getting others to join in the fun.
R.I.P. Eric. Saw you out there a lot in spots south of OB… sharing the stoke. You will be missed.
what happened to eric on that day?

we all came from our beloved ocean. Eric has just gone back before us.See you in the line-up at rockaway bro.
Many thanks to you all for your love and support and remembering our Eric. He was larger than life and there are no words to express the loss…
There will be another paddle out sometime in January to release his ashes…. that is what he wanted. We’ll keep everybody posted, and you can also check on the Facebook memorial page for further details. Thanks again for your kind words. May he RIP. MiMi
Aunt Mimi, Mom, Oma, and everyone else-
I just got the news about 2 hours ago. I am still shocked and don’t want to believe it. My mind keeps saying if I go to SF I could walk into the hotel kitchen and see him. My deepest most heartfelt condolences to the family and friends.
“Uncle Eric” as we called him is,(and always will be) the uncle of one of my closest undergrad friends, who honestly feels more like a sister after all these years than a friend and her family like my family. All of us that met him wished he really was our uncle too. No question about it that he treated us like we were his nieces and nephews. He was a great guy, in every sense!!! He was so nice to everyone that crossed his path. We always looked forward to Uncle Eric stories. We all already miss him, and this is a huge loss to society. Heaven just got alot cooler with a very cool new angel. He might be gone but will NEVER be forgotten, and we take solace in all the amazing memories which will live on forever in our hearts.
Rest in Peace Uncle Eric.
im really taken back and sadden to hear about eric. i had the good fortune of sharing a few sessions with eric over the years, we were usually the bigger guys out there and had some laughs over that; he seemed like a really good dude. thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.
Eric’s trademark essence transcends the proverbial “Rest In Peace”, as the Eric I got to know was far too hyperactive to rest, and was clearly at peace with himself from day one.
No one I knew devoured life the way Eric did. He didn’t just soak it up, he shared every drop, and never failed to throw in a customized hug and wry wisecrack to boot. Such a unique and soulful approach to life. Can’t help but look forward to following his example.
May there always be an unlimited supply of beautiful people, lovingly crafted cuisine, and warm-water barrels for Eric in his new dimension. And may we all live by Eric’s boisterous wisdom, punctuated by his infamous words — “What are you waiting for?”
Miss you terribly, my favorite big lug.
I didn’t personaly know Eric, but I used to surf next to him on occasion at Linda Mar. Whenever I did surf Linda Mar I always heard him talking to everyone and he always made eye contact with me or gave me a friendly nod. Yeah he was one of the bigger guys out there but he was always cool and seemed real friendly, now I wish I wouldv’e met him. My condolences out to his family and God Bless. Once in a while you bump into people you know have a good soul and I felt as though he did.
I just happened to look at the memorial today south end of Linda Mar and was shocked to see it was for Eric, a man so full of the love of life. Anytime the swell was up I would see Eric, Sloat, Rockaway, Linda mar, Kelly. Last time I saw him he was getting out of the water at Pleasure Point and laughing about how great his life was that he could surf when he wanted. Eric, you will be missed ! I know you are still in the line up.
