Our friends at Aqua Surf Shop in San Francisco are sponsoring a fundraiser for relief efforts in Uganda.

Come party for a good cause!!! Aqua is helping some good friends with an important fundraiser at 111 Minna on Thurs., Sept 24. This could be the simplest fundraiser ever —buy a ticket, party with beautiful yoga people, and dance to Sila and the Afrofunk experience and DJ Cheb i Sabbah, all while helping the cause.  SF to Uganda will raise money to help:

Build a birthing center in Uganda with staff, sterile supplies, support and education for women with HIV/AIDS.
To build a primary school for the children.
Improvement of orphanage facility and water systems.

Save The Waves Coalition presents its third annual Life Is A Wave benefit event, a yearly celebration of coastal environmentalism through music, art, film, and community activism. Life Is A Wave 2009 will roll in on May 14 from 6pm ’til midnight, once again at 111 Minna Gallery in downtown San Francisco. The multimedia event will feature live music from several innovative new bands, including Bay Area heavyweights Bayonics, as well as the fast-rising Kapakahi—both known for their dynamic mix of world beats and highly energetic live shows. Opening will be Clif Bar Inc.’s own Dung Beetles, along with DJs M3, OmarEtch, and DJ Paul.

This year Save The Waves will honor Reef founder, International Surfing Association President and philanthropist Fernando Aguerre as recipient of the 2009 Wave Saver Award, for his work and support defending coastlines around the world.

Sponsors of Life Is A Wave 2009 include Billabong B9, Clif Bar, Jim Beam, Joie de Vivre Hotels, Mavericks™, New Belgium Brewing, Ocean Vodka, Patagonia, Quiksilver Foundation, SIGG, Surfline, Zola Acai, and 1% For The Planet.. Additional sponsors will be announced closer to the event date.

Tickets are $20 general and $50 Green Package, (Green Package includes a one-year Save The Waves membership and a very special gift). All proceeds to benefit Save The Waves Coalition.

Surf Documentary Under the Sun in San Francisco on Saturday, Sept., 20, 2008

A new 16 mm surf documentary Under the Sun will premiere in San Francisco on Sat., Sept. 20th at 6:30 PM at 111 Minna.

The film asks pertinent moral and environmental questions about the future of the surf industry and the future of our oceans. Plus it’s got insane surfing by Dave Rastovich, Nat Young, Beau Young, Mick Fanning, etc., and a great custom soundtrack.

Surfwear Fashion Show Benefit in San Francisco on Thursday, August 9, 2007

A “Summer in the City” fashion show benefit, sponsored by Aqua Surf Shop, for the Edgewood Center for Children and Families will be held on Thurs., Aug. 9th at 111 Minna Gallery in San Francisco. The show will feature swimwear and sportswear from Element, Nikita, Zoe Bikinis, L-Space, Volcom, and RVCA.

The show will feature music spun by Mr. Bean, DJ Smoky (Oneblood Sound), DJ Jacques & DJ Guacamole (WBLK Dancehall Massive), and DJ Pony P.

111 Minna Gallery is located between Mission and Howard Streets at 2nd Street.

The show is 21 and over. Doors at 7:30 P. M., show begins at 8:30 P. M. Tickets are $12 at the door, or pre-sale tickets are available at Aqua on Haight (1742 Haight Street at Cole) or Aqua at the Beach (2830 Sloat Blvd. at 47th Avenue). More info at 415-876-2782.

All proceeds from Summer in the City will go to Edgewood Center for Children and Families. Edgewood is a local-leading provider of mental health and social services for children and families in crisis in the San Francisco area. Edgewood currently serves more than 5,000 children and families each year in the BayArea.

A benefit “rager” party, presented by Aqua Surf Shop and Save the Waves Coalition, will be held for the Save the Waves Coalition on Thurs., March 15th at 111 Minna (111 Minna Street at 2nd Street) in San Francisco. The party runs from 6 P.M. to 2 A.M. Ages 21 and over only.

The party will be a multimedia extravaganza with art, photography, and film. There will also be a silent auction and raffle, along with information on environmental action and community development.

Entertainment includes DJs Paul McNitt, Aaron Pope, and Dean Samaras and the bands CNB, Front Porch, and a very special guest (???).

Tickets are $10 advance/$12 door, and advance tickets can be purchased at either Aqua Surf Shop in San Francisco.

On Tuesday, October 24th, join Zuna Surf and Chronicle Books for a star-studded Inside Maverick’s and Photo/Stoner book release party and Surfrider SF Benefit at 111 Minna Gallery! Celebrate and throw a beer back with surf authors & luminaries Matt Warshaw, Doug Acton, Grant Washburn, Jeff Divine, Bruce Jenkins, Maverick’s surfers, and more.

Arrive early for seats! The night kicks off with a 7:00 P.M. slideshow by Surfer’s Journal’s Jeff Divine, showcasing Ron Stoner photos not published in Warshaw’s book. Stoner was a pioneering Surfer Magazine lensman who mysteriously disappeared in the ’70s and deemed dead. Then, catch Doug Acton and Grant Washburn’s fantastic new Maverick’s footage.

Afterwards, chill to live surf music by the HIWATTERS and DJ Shabadoo’s grooves.
