International Surfing Day is on Monday, June 20!

Here are some local events:

ISD Team Challenge Surfing Contest sponsored by Surfrider San Mateo County
Mobile location: Linda Mar or Montara or Dunes
6 TEAMS 4 SURFERS 1 HOUR… 0 ENTRY FEE

To celebrate International Surfing Day (ISD), the Surfrider Foundation in San Mateo County will be hosting a team surfing competition.

HOW IT WORKS
At the start of the 1 hour heat, each of the six teams send out one competitor. Once a competitor catches a wave they must come in and switch out with the next member of his team. This process continues throughout the duration of the heat. There is no time limit per competitor and they may wait as long as they like for the right wave.

SCORING
Your team score is the combination of each team member’s top scoring wave during the heat.

WHO CAN BE ON MY TEAM
All ages, genders and skill levels are welcome on each 4 person team.

International Surfing Day at Baker Beach in San Francisco, sponsored by Surfrider San Francisco Chapter:

Come join us for INTERNATIONAL SURFING DAY at Baker Beach! We have a whole host of things lined up for the day. We’ll have a beach clean-up from 4-6pm followed by a BBQ with free food and drinks! Come out and help us celebrate surfing — stick around for the BBQ and participate in a raffle to win some great prizes like: Exclusive Limited Edition ISD T-shirts, surf brand Trucker Hats, Surfing DVD’s, Music CD from Donavon Frankenreiter & of course SF Surfrider chapter items!

Beach Cleanup in San Francisco on Sunday, June 20, 2010

Sunday, June 20 is International Surfing Day. Please join the San Francisco chapter of the Surfrider Foundation this Sunday and make your Mother Ocean proud of you on Father’s Day. We will be celebrating the sun, sand and surfing lifestyle at Baker Beach in the Presidio (the nation’s only urban National Park).

Enjoy Terrific Trash Collecting, Beautiful Burgers and veggi dogs and a Bucket of Beer while we give back something to the one we love in the city we love best.

All clean-up supplies will be provided: bags, gloves and pick-up sticks – just bring yourself, your dad and your friends! We will have cool prizes for the most noteworthy garbage collection – t-shirts, surf movie DVD’s, etc.

Date: Sunday June 20th, 2010

Time: 11:30 am to 1 pm

Where: Baker Beach in the Presidio

* Note – The “Escape the Rock” triathlon will be passing through Baker Beach in the morning, and the access road and parking lots will be blocked until 11:00 am, so don’t come early, but you are welcome to stay late.

Surf For Life is teaming up with Jeannette from Schnell Schnell Outdoor Fitness Boot Camp to offer a fun, healthy way to show your support for our cause! Join us for a workout on the beach, and ask us all your questions at the BBQ.

Date: Saturday, March 21st, 2009
Time: 10:00 AM
Location: Ocean Beach, Stairway 4, Great Highway at Balboa Street . Park in the lot, meet at Stairway 4.

YOU GET:
A tough, fun 100-minute workout on the beach: Warm up watching the waves, and get your heart and body moving with all the Bootie Camp favorites, including hill runs, push-ups, crunches, burpees, sprints, jumps, and much more. Finish off with 20 minutes of core strengthening and a stretching session that will leave no room for tightness. Cool down with a jump into the ocean!

Everyone is welcome—you don’t have to be in crazy shape to do this! Invite you friends, family, and co-workers. Bring a bottle of water, a towel, and sunscreen. Dress in layers, and wear a swimsuit under your workout clothes!

Apres Boot Camp Party (weather permitting): We’ll fire up a BBQ close by to make sure you’re getting food and drinks to replenish your energy. Enjoy a fantastic day on the beach!

BBQ & Benefit for Maverick’s Surfer Christy Davis on Sunday, December 21, 2008

All friends of Chris “Christy” Davis are invited to a BBQ and benefit at 3:00 PM on Sun., Dec. 21, 2008 in San Francisco at Ocean Beach. This benefit will show financial and emotional support for the nearly 20-year Maverick’s veteran Christy Davis, whose teenage daughter is undergoing cancer treatment.

This is a tough time financially for most people, so any donations will be hugely appreciated. Christy has been a mainstay in the Maverick’s lineup for nearly two decades, and he is loved and respected by many surfers throughout Northern California—and the world, for that matter. Let’s show some support for this fellow surfer’s family. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Davis family!

From summer to fall to winter-like rain in one week, so summer is really ending today–and the party is postponed until tomorrow—due to the rain. Celebrate with this invitation from the San Francisco chapter of the Surfrider Foundation:

Greetings Surfriders!

We’ve decided to take advantage of our fading summer days while they last and get together at the beach on Sunday afternoon for a social surf, bonfire and BBQ.

Come on down to enjoy the fire pits that we’ve worked so hard to keep and maintain all summer, and get to know some other like minds in the SF surfing community. Come one, come all! Bring supplies if you want, or just turn up—we’ll have everything we need.

International Surfing Day Beach Clean Up & BBQ at Ocean Beach on Wednesday, June 21, 2006

Aqua Surf Shop and Nikita Clothing, in conjunction with Surfrider Foundation, are having a beach cleanup on Wednesday, June 19, 2006 on the beach at the Sloat Avenue parking lot at Ocean Beach, San Francisco. This Wednesday is International Surfing Day, and is also the longest day of summer, so come down from 6:30-8 PM for the beach cleanup, and stick around for a BBQ and raffles at Aqua Surf Shop from 8 PM onwards!
