Come party at the Park Chalet (1000 Great Highway, San Francisco) for a good cause. On Thurs., Aug. 25, from 7:00PM to 10:00 PM, we’re going to have live music, new surf videos (with the filmmakers there), a chance to win a Danny Hess custom surfboard and other killer prizes (San Franpsycho clothes, Korduroy films, Sanuk shoes, Burton gear, and more). The Cause: Surf for Life is trying to build the first high school in the small fishing/surfing town of El Cuco, El Salvador. Right now the kids have to leave home just to have a chance to go to high school and most don’t. We can build the whole high school for just $25000. On Friday, Aug. 26 at San Francisco’s Victoria Theatre (2961 16th St./Mission St.) Join Surf for Life and director Cyrus Sutton as we screen his award-winning films “Stoked and Broke” followed by the SF Premier of “Under The Sun”! Cyrus will on hand to answer questions at the film. ALL PROCEEDS GO TOWARDS SURF FOR LIFE HIGH SCHOOL CONSTRUCTION IN EL SALVADOR!

Plastic Ocean Art Event in San Francisco on Friday, December 3, 2010

SF Surfrider invites you to the Plastic Ocean Art Event (with a silent auction) on Friday, December 3, 2010 at Space Gallery (1141 Polk Street) in San Francisco. It’s a party, an art auction and an educational event about plastic pollution found in our oceans and on our beaches. All of the funds generated will go towards supporting SF Surfrider’s volunteer, Carolynn Box, on a 5 Gyres research voyage where artists, activists and scientists will study plastic pollution in the South Atlantic Ocean. 5 Gyres, a non-profit that focuses on plastic pollution research and education, is working with Surfrider Foundation to get the word out about plastic pollution and how we all need to re-evaluate our personal use of single-use plastic. The silent auction includes photographs by Chris Jordan, Thomas Campbell, Will Henry, Judith Selby Lang, Tiffany Campbell, Erin Kunkel, Seth Migdail, Nick Allen, Sam Diephuis, Mark Grissom, Alex Hammond, JR Hussey and others. Funds will go directly to supporting Carolynn Box on a 5 Gyres research voyage (cost of vessel, research and travel). Surf for Life Block Party Surf Movie Nights in SF on Friday & Saturday, October 8–9

Surf for Life presents The Great Highway Movie Nights on Fri., 10/8 and Sat., 10/9 at Lower Great Highway and Quintara. The block will be closed to cars; bring blankets and lawn chairs. Double bills both nights starting at 7:00PM. $10 donation requested and all proceeds build schools in Central America. S’mores will be FREE!

Friday’s movies are North Shore and God Went Surfing with the Devil.
Saturday’s movies are Surf’s Up and Idiosyncracies. Patrick Trefz will be at the event on Saturday to speak about his award winning film.

Sunday Surf Benefit Finale in San Francisco on Sunday, September 26, 2010

After MANY Wet Wednesdays and a handful of Surf Sundays, the benefit parties run by Jeff Grubler are at an end. Jeff has worked selflessly to organize, promote and work these parties, donating his own bartending tips to the nonprofit organization of the month. Please show up for the finale Surf Sunday Benefit on Sept. 26 at Joxer Daly’s Irish Pub at 46 West Portal in San Francisco from 6:00–10:00PM.

Here’s Jeff’s blurb for the benefit:

Please join Surfpulse.com for a Surf Sunday benefit party for the Red Vic Movie House. The Red Vic has been a worker-owned and operated movie house since 1980 and is San Francisco treasure.

Free admission, free food (Yolanda’s cheese enchiladas) and DJ Paul will be spinning funk, soul, breaks, house and reggae.

Powerlines Productions will be supplying the evening’s surf films and footage and will be selling DVDs for just $10 each and donating half of the profits to the Red Vic.

Sierra Nevada will be donating $1 for all of their pints sold and a portion of the bar and tips will be donated.

There will be a $5 raffle for a custom Las Olas Surfboard and other great prizes donated by cool local businesses such as the Pizza Place on Noriega, Timbuk2 bags, Sunset Pet Supply, Noriega Produce and Java Beach Cafe and of course the Red Vic Movie House. If you don’t think you can make it but would still like to support the Red Vic you can buy raffle tickets in advance at Joxer Daly’s Irish Pub or at the Red Vic.

West Portal is super easy and fast to get to on the MUNI. You can take the K, L, and M lines and 41 Quintara – 24th street bus.

Surfrider Marin “Return of the Surfboards” Fundraiser in San Francisco on Friday, August 27, 2010

At last month’s Aloha Festival, Surfrider Marin had the fortune to meet the dedicated volunteers of Balikbayod from the San Francisco Filipino Cultural Center. Their project got us excited to help out and we hope you will join us. They are raising money to ship community-donated surfboards overseas to give to boys and girls of the Philippines.

Balikbayod – Returning Wave is dedicated to promoting education through the love of surfing. They bring donated surfboards to the Philippines for kids to borrow, provided they stay enrolled in school or return to school through Alternative Learning Systems. It is a Life Altering experience to surf, and giving this incredible opportunity to a young kid is priceless.

Balikbayod held a Repair Party last month to patch up 30+ donated surfboards for shipment to the Philippines. Friday August 27 they are holding an Art Sale, music, food and dance festival to raise funds to pay for the shipping. Art Sale Fundraiser will be at the Bayanihan Community Center, 1010 Mission Street at 6th Street in San Francisco. Check out their website (link below) for more details and map.

The Waterbar in SF is hosting their annual Oysterfest event benefitting the Surfrider Foundation. Tickets are $30 and all ticket sales from this event are donated to the San Mateo County chapter.

Come join us Saturday, August 28th from 12-3pm on the scenic Embarcadero and enjoy panoramic views of the Bay and San Francisco skyline while you listen to live surf music by local band Drifting Sand. Participate in the hot sauce competition, shucking challenge, and slurping in style contest or just sit back and enjoy local brews from Anchor Brewing Company, Speakeasy and Lagunitas Brewing Company as well as wines from Napa Valley Vintners. Sample oysters from Drakes Bay Family Farms, Maison BeauSoleil, Nick’s Cove and others.

All this is included for just $30, and it is all goes to help us protect our oceans, waves and beaches.
