Surfrider Marin Spring Art Show in Sausalito from Friday, April 29 through Sunday, May 1, 2011

Surfrider Marin has reserved the professional art gallery Studio 333 (333 Caledonia St, Sausalito) to hold the first annual Surfrider Foundation Spring Art Show featuring local artists who specialize in surf, marine or Marin coastal art. Artists on board are: Michael Knowlton, Jim Ellis, Jon Francis, Mary Wagstaff, Tess Greene, Dino Colombo, Nick Allen, John Bucklin and Tom Fleming. The event is a fundraiser for Surfrider, a small donation requested at the door. Our hope is to encourage the arts that the incredible coastal scenery of Marin has inspired. Opening night festivities will include door drawings, music and good cheer. You will not want to miss this one.

Come down to the Make Out Room in San Francisco’s Mission District, and show your support for the victims of Japan. In addition to live music & entertainment, we’ll be raffling off tons of goodies for those who purchase tickets! Keep in mind that you DO NOT have to be at the event to win.

We are Japan Aid SF, a group of friends who have loved ones in Japan and who love Japan! We felt compelled to do something in the wake of the Japan earthquake, Pacific tsunami, and nuclear crisis. With partnership from JCCCNC and NoisePop, we are directing our combined talents and energy into a benefit concert and raffle for the victims of the disaster. The event will occur at the Make-Out Room on 4/21/11 at 7pm. 100% of the proceeds will go to the JCCCNC’s Northern Japan Earthquake Relief Fund.

Our goal is to raise $5000 and we are looking for local businesses to join our efforts! These are the ways you can contribute as a sponsor:

We are very fortunate to have NoisePop as our promotion partner. Surfrider Marin “Return of the Surfboards” Fundraiser in San Francisco on Friday, August 27, 2010

At last month’s Aloha Festival, Surfrider Marin had the fortune to meet the dedicated volunteers of Balikbayod from the San Francisco Filipino Cultural Center. Their project got us excited to help out and we hope you will join us. They are raising money to ship community-donated surfboards overseas to give to boys and girls of the Philippines.

Balikbayod – Returning Wave is dedicated to promoting education through the love of surfing. They bring donated surfboards to the Philippines for kids to borrow, provided they stay enrolled in school or return to school through Alternative Learning Systems. It is a Life Altering experience to surf, and giving this incredible opportunity to a young kid is priceless.

Balikbayod held a Repair Party last month to patch up 30+ donated surfboards for shipment to the Philippines. Friday August 27 they are holding an Art Sale, music, food and dance festival to raise funds to pay for the shipping. Art Sale Fundraiser will be at the Bayanihan Community Center, 1010 Mission Street at 6th Street in San Francisco. Check out their website (link below) for more details and map.

It’s that time again… the San Francisco Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation is heading behind the bar to dish out drinks for a good cause.

On July 1st, the Chapter will be raising funds for their first ever official office space located in the beautiful Presidio of San Francisco. All tips acquired between 6pm and 9pm go directly toward the cost of the rented space, allowing the Chapter to better carry out its mission of protecting the City’s oceans, waves and beaches.

Should be a rocking event with a raffle, screen-printing and plenty of mixed-up drinks and good times. Be sure to check it out and get there early to take advantage of the 2 for 1 drink specials! yum…

Join Save The Waves on Thursday, May 27, 7pm-2am at Mezzanine (444 Jessie Street) in San Francisco for Life Is A Wave, our celebration of coastal environmentalism through music, art, film, and community activism.

This annual fundraiser bash is a benefit for Save The Waves Coalition’s nonprofit environmental programs, and this year Life Is A Wave features live music by Jon Swift, Xperimento and Funky C, a live and silent auction, and musical performances by DJ M3, DJ Solomon and J Boogie. Tickets are now on sale – general admission: $20 advance / $25 door; VIP admission: $75 advance / $100 door (VIP tickets include admission to a special hosted VIP reception with open bar, Peruvian cuisine, & fresh oyster bar from 6:30–8pm, and a one-year STW membership). San FranPsycho will be excitedly printing T-shirts in their special live performance screen printing.

Dirk Denny Memorial Fundraiser in Marin on Thursday, May 13, 2010

On Thursday, May 13, The Iron Springs Pub & Brewery in Fairfax will be the site of the “Denny Beni”, a benefit to help the family of Dirk Denny who died April 3 at age 49 while surfing with his family at Drake’s Beach. Denny is survived by a wife and two daughters. All proceeds from food and drink sales from 4 pm to midnight will go to the family. A life long resident of Marin and avid surfer, Denny was a great supporter of Surfrider Foundation Marin. He and his daughters attended in our last two beach cleanups and he participated in last year’s Shore to Shore Paddle Race. Dirk was most at peace in the sea or on the mountain. With an easy style and a ready smile he loved to provide community service cross Marin. He was an active Executive Board Member of the Sleepy Hollow Swim Team. His hard work and pride were evident in his successful thirty years of running the Dirk Denny Painting Company. He will be deeply missed by family and friends.

Our friends at Aqua Surf Shop in San Francisco are sponsoring a fundraiser for relief efforts in Uganda.

Come party for a good cause!!! Aqua is helping some good friends with an important fundraiser at 111 Minna on Thurs., Sept 24. This could be the simplest fundraiser ever —buy a ticket, party with beautiful yoga people, and dance to Sila and the Afrofunk experience and DJ Cheb i Sabbah, all while helping the cause.  SF to Uganda will raise money to help:

Build a birthing center in Uganda with staff, sterile supplies, support and education for women with HIV/AIDS.
To build a primary school for the children.
Improvement of orphanage facility and water systems.

Save the Waves and Surfrider have been invited by the Park Chalet in San Francisco to start a monthly fundraiser in their restaurant. The first event is coming up on Thurs., June 18!   

WE NEED YOU!  We are going to need as much support as possible from all of you so please make a very special effort to be there and bring as many of your friends as you can.   

HERE’S THE DEAL:  At the door, (starting at 6:00 PM) guests donate $5 to our organization and enjoy drinks and appetizers at happy hour prices; $3 pints and $5 apps,and they get to enjoy a killer band, Polemo, on happy hour prices until 9:00 PM.

The Park Chalet is located behind The Beach Chalet on Great Highway, just south of Fulton Street, in San Francisco.

A “Summer in the City” fashion show benefit, sponsored by Aqua Surf Shop, for the Edgewood Center for Children and Families will be held on Thurs., Aug. 9th at 111 Minna Gallery in San Francisco. The show will feature swimwear and sportswear from Element, Nikita, Zoe Bikinis, L-Space, Volcom, and RVCA.

The show will feature music spun by Mr. Bean, DJ Smoky (Oneblood Sound), DJ Jacques & DJ Guacamole (WBLK Dancehall Massive), and DJ Pony P.

111 Minna Gallery is located between Mission and Howard Streets at 2nd Street.

All proceeds from Summer in the City will go to Edgewood Center for Children and Families. Edgewood is a local-leading provider of mental health and social services for children and families in crisis in the San Francisco area. Edgewood currently serves more than 5,000 children and families each year in the BayArea.

BSSA Noseriding Clinic Fundraiser in Santa Cruz on Saturday, August 4, 2007

Big Stick Surfing Association’s tandem team has been invited to compete in the ITSA’s World Titles on Aug. 23-25th at Waikiki, Honolulu.

Big Stick’s Tandem Team of Luis Mejia and Asia Carpenter, proudly sponsored by SurfTech, will be riding a 12-ft. SurfTech Tuflite designed by Micky Munoz.

To help finance the team’s participation, Big Stick will be holding a fundraising Noseriding Clinic on Sat., Aug. 4th in Santa Cruz at 38th Ave/Dirt Farm, beginning at 7:30 A. M.

There will be several instructors, including CJ Nelson. Through on-beach instruction, demonstrations, in-water coaching, and videotaping, you will learn how to:

Set up for a noseride
Cross step
Hang 5
Hang 10
Backpedal

The requested donation for the Noseriding Clinic is $15.
