Sunset Shapers Surf Shop Opening Party in San Francisco on Saturday, September 25, 2010

Sunset Shapers, a new surf shop, is opening in San Francisco on Sat., Sept. 25! Party starts at 1:00 PM.

Here’s some info from James Mitchell of Las Olas Surfboards:

The shop is called Sunset Shapers and is located at 3896 Noriega St. (@46th ave). The shop is comprised of a retail space and a large shaping room. The store will feature handcrafted works from local board builders from SF, HMB, and Santa Cruz. Some of the featured shapers are myself and Tim Gras (SF), Steve Iverson (HMB), and Steve Coletta, Buck Noé, Doug Haut, and Nick Palandroni of Source and GP surfboards (all from SC). The grand opening is on Saturday (9/25) and starts at 1:00 pm.

There will be a meet and greet with many of the shapers, music, a small raffle
and free food.

Sunday Surf Benefit Finale in San Francisco on Sunday, September 26, 2010

After MANY Wet Wednesdays and a handful of Surf Sundays, the benefit parties run by Jeff Grubler are at an end. Jeff has worked selflessly to organize, promote and work these parties, donating his own bartending tips to the nonprofit organization of the month. Please show up for the finale Surf Sunday Benefit on Sept. 26 at Joxer Daly’s Irish Pub at 46 West Portal in San Francisco from 6:00–10:00PM.

Here’s Jeff’s blurb for the benefit:

Please join Surfpulse.com for a Surf Sunday benefit party for the Red Vic Movie House. The Red Vic has been a worker-owned and operated movie house since 1980 and is San Francisco treasure.

Free admission, free food (Yolanda’s cheese enchiladas) and DJ Paul will be spinning funk, soul, breaks, house and reggae.

Powerlines Productions will be supplying the evening’s surf films and footage and will be selling DVDs for just $10 each and donating half of the profits to the Red Vic.

Sierra Nevada will be donating $1 for all of their pints sold and a portion of the bar and tips will be donated.

There will be a $5 raffle for a custom Las Olas Surfboard and other great prizes donated by cool local businesses such as the Pizza Place on Noriega, Timbuk2 bags, Sunset Pet Supply, Noriega Produce and Java Beach Cafe and of course the Red Vic Movie House. If you don’t think you can make it but would still like to support the Red Vic you can buy raffle tickets in advance at Joxer Daly’s Irish Pub or at the Red Vic.

West Portal is super easy and fast to get to on the MUNI. You can take the K, L, and M lines and 41 Quintara – 24th street bus.

Proceeds raised will help support free art classes for teens at Sharon Art Studio’s Richmond and Sunset Beacon programs.

Show your support for the SF Chapter of Surfrider. The Surfrider Foundation is dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of the world’s oceans, waves and beaches for everyone.

Admission is free, there will be free food (Yolanda’s famous chicken and veggie/cheese enchiladas) and DJ Paul will be spinning breaks, house, reggae, soul, funk and hip-hop. There will be a $5 raffle for a custom Las Olas Surfboard shaped by James Mitchell and lots of other great prizes donated by Noriega Produce, Sunset Pet Supply, Java Beach, Timbuk2, the Pizza Place on Noriega and the Red Vic Movie House.

Music! Surf Films! Surfboard Raffle! All to benefit the SF chapter of Surfrider Foundation.

On Thurs., April 15 6:00–9:00 PM, come on down to the Park Chalet (behind the Beach Chalet on Great Highway and Fulton St.) for this great benefit. Here’s more information from the organizer:

MUSIC
MY PEOPLES (KAPAKAHI)
Who is My Peoples (formally Kapakahi)? Their music is a fresh and
progressive mash-up of Reggae, Ska, Hip-Hop and funk and their
energetic stage show grabs the attention of whatever crowd they’re in
front of. They aptly dubbed the title “Urban Aloa” to describe their
sound and vibe.

San Francisco’s My Peoples (Kapakahi) brings a distinct island vibe to
the shores of our bustling city. When asked who most influenced its
music, drummer Steve Salta names Bob Marley, and vocalist-guitarist
Mike Dayao adds Hawaii’s Pepper, Israel Kamakawiwa’ole, Ka’au Crater
Boys, Katchafire and Natural Vibrations. There are also hints of jazz
and funk, as Salta says, “from James Brown to Miles Davis to Herbie
Hancock.”

MOVIE
LOST PROPHETS..SEARCH FOR THE COLLECTIVE
The film was directed by independent filmmaker Nathan Apffel and
chronicles the lives of eight different surfers. Among them are Reef
McIntosh, Brian Conley, Dave Rastovich and Chris Del Moro, with
narration by Tom Morey. Lost Prophets “highlights surfers from around
the world who are doing more than striving for a sponsor. They’re
environmentalists, nonprofit organizers and spiritual people
performing selfless acts…” Outside Magazine writer Lisa Lombardi
says the film “embraces the original notion of surfing as an escape, a
joy, and a way to connect with nature…the movie is a gorgeous array
of color, action, and editing.”

Wet Wednesday Benefit at The Riptide in SF on March 31, 2010

The Riptide hosts a Wet Wednesday (surf music, films, etc.) every week, but the last Wednesday of the month is a benefit for a local nonprofit or worthy cause. On March 31, from 8:00 PM–2:00 AM, SurfPulse and others sponsor a benefit for the Edgewood Center for Children and Families.

Please join us for a great party for a great cause. The Edgewood Center has been serving Bay Area children since the days of the Gold Rush. They provide a range of services to help children, teens and families at home, in schools, the community and in residential treatment.

Admission is free, there will be free food and DJ Paul will get your booty shaking.

Surfpulse.com will host a raffle for a $450 gift certificate from Las Olas Surfboards and there will be other great prizes from cool local businesses like Aqua Surf Shop, surf author Jaimal Yogis, Java Beach Cafe, Noriega Produce, The Pizza Place on Noriega, The Red Vic Movie House and Timbuk2.

Sierra Nevada is donating $1 for every pint of their beer sold that night, a portion of the tips will be donated and the Riptide is donating a percentage of the bar sales.

Wet Wednesday at The Riptide 11/25/2009

SurfPulse helps sponsor the last Wet Wednesday of every month at The Riptide (3639 Taraval at 47th Ave.) in SF. Come on down and join us and other sponsors, including Aqua Surf Shop, for a Thanksgiving Eve bender. There will be a benefit for Alemany Farm and a celebration of bartender Jeff’s birthday. The night will feature:

-$5 raffle for a Las Olas Surfboard (a biofoam 7’0” rounded pin single fin) plus prizes from Java Beach Cafe, Timbuk2, Red Vic Movie House, Mocha 101, the Pizza Place on Noriega and Jaimal Yogis, author of Saltwater Buddha.

-Shorts by the Aqua Surf Shop Crew (Silvin Morgan, Brian Musial, Aleks Petrovitch and Merle) including their classic zombie/red neck surf flicks.

-Jeff’s Birthday celebration festivities (anything could happen—2007′s bday brought a parade of Jeff look-alikes to the bar) with DJ Paul spinning soul, funk, dub, breaks, hip hop and reggae.

-Free food -No admission. Sierra Nevada will also donate $1 for every pint of their beer sold and a portion of the bar sales and tips will also be donated.

Alemany Farm grows organic fruit and vegetables for San Francisco’s diverse communities, hosts field trips and organizes educational workshops to get City residents closer to their food. Please join SurfPulse.com in raising money to take the children from the Raphael House (a San Francisco shelter for homeless families) sledding in Tahoe this winter.
