Powerlines Productions, Big Wave Filmmakers since 1994, deliver their latest project, “Super Natural,” on November 3 in San Francisco. The documentary film takes you on a tour with some of the best big wave surfers in the world riding giant waves from powerful Pacific winter storm systems. Filmed during the epic El Niño and La Niña winter seasons the movie takes you on an insider’s journey to the fabled big wave breaks of Maui’s Pe’ahi (Jaws) and Northern California’s Maverick’s . World-class surfers and underground legends tell their stories as they go back to the roots of paddling into giant waves thought to be unfeasible years ago without the use of jet skis. Mixed with a hand picked soundtrack and edge-of-your-seat highlights, see what makes these athletes ‘Super Natural’ as they risk it all chasing waves and dreams for the ultimate thrill.

San Francisco’s Aqua Surf Shop brings you the latest surf film from Kai Neville – LOST ATLAS! Kai created the already seminal film Modern Collective, so you can expect some futuristic ripping and killer camerawork.

Aqua will present the film in breathtaking CPL (in our Chilly Parking Lot) Thursday August 11 at 9pm.

Yep, you heard us correctly, we’ll be showing LOST ATLAS fo FREE on da back wall of our Sloat Shop in the parking lot. We’ve done this before, and experience reminds us that it is probably going to be cold and damp. So bring those Patagonia/North Face puff jackets, camping chairs, beach blankets, hip flasks etc to keep you warm and comfortable while you watch Kai’s latest flick!

Surf For Life will have food and drink for donations.

Ocean Monk is a beautifully shot, mesmerizing short film that chronicles New York City monks who find deep meditation and spirituality while surfing The Big Apple’s breaks and the nearby beaches of Long Island. This group of athletic monks based in Queens – all students of the late Indian teacher, Sri Chinmoy, and of all various ages, incorporate their love for the ocean, its beauty and power in their search for enlightenment.

Shot in HD, Ocean Monk explores the ideals which drive their life as well as the pounding winter surf which sustains them. Features music from Sigur Ros. Appearances by Kelly Slater, Jack Johnson and Titus Kinimaka. Directed by Sanjay Rawal.

Shaped is a documentary film that pays tribute to the men and women of the surf world in the 1960s, working in the trenches, who all had a seminal had in shaping the future of surfing as we know it today. This handful of influential innovators had no idea at the time how their work would change the lives of millions of people through their innovative thinking and commitment to their craft.

This Thursday’s Cal Academy’s NightLife explores the science, art, and culture of surfing. This extravaganza will include a surf short from the soon to be released movie ‘Super Natural’ from Powerlines Productions <http://www.powerlinesproductions.com>. This includes footage from last year’s big wave event at Maverick’s and giant surf from Pe’ahi (aka “Jaws”), tarp surfing, live ukulele players and drummers, interactive games about the ocean, local Surfrider <http://www.surfrider.org> organizations and more. In addition, a special gallery will feature surfboard art, and expert roundtables about surf photography, board shaping and environmentalism.
